The story of how faith shaped America’s founding, history, and moral compass, the belief that rights come from the Creator, not from government, is the subject of Newsmax’s latest original documentary, “God and America’s 250th.”

The documentary premieres Sunday, June 28, at 9 p.m. ET.

Based on the book “Celebrating Our Founder at America’s 250th Birthday” by prayer leader and author Cynthia Scott, the film details God’s role in the establishment of the United States.

It emphasizes that the United States’ first right is religious freedom and examines the American system of self-governance and liberty, rooted in biblical principles and how that perspective has allowed the nation to prosper.

“The God of the Bible is the author of freedom. He was there from the very beginning, purposing the establishment of America — a nation where people would be free to worship Him as they saw fit and live their lives according to His word,” said Scott, who is featured in the documentary.

“My book highlights the central role God has played in the creation and preservation of America and engages readers in prayer to impact our future,” she added.

Award-winning filmmaker Jack Thomas Smith wrote, directed, and co-executive produced the film, working with his production company, Fox Trail Productions, alongside co-executive producer Mandy Smith.

Smith noted what he sees as a spiritual battle unfolding in the country since the 1960s, commenting that freedom of religion was intended not to impose religion on government, but to prevent government from imposing itself on religion.

“Those who want to bring down Christianity need to remember that the abolitionist movement, child labor laws, the women’s suffrage movement, and the civil rights movement all emerged from the church,” he said.

In addition to Scott, “God and America’s 250th” features Kelly Shackelford, President, CEO, and Chief Counsel of First Liberty Institute, and presidential historian Craig Shirley.

Among other topics, the program explores how the Declaration of Independence states that all people are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, as well as the challenges America faces from forces both within and beyond its borders.

“At a time when America is deeply divided, this milestone reminds us that our nation was built on enduring principles, including faith in God and the belief that our rights come from our Creator, not from government,” Mandy Smith said.“Remembering those truths is essential to preserving the foundation that has guided America for 250 years.”
