In ancient Rome, the word euangelion was a Greek term that meant “good news” or “a reward for bringing good news”. It was used to make grand announcements, such as the inauguration of laws or a military victory. For example, after a victory, a messenger would run to the capital to proclaim the euangelion to the people.
