Mosab Yousef, son of the leader of the terrorist group Hamas, risked his life to speak out against the religion of his childhood. As a result, he has been disowned by his family. He told a crowd at an event sponsored by the Jerusalem Post, “When the [former] president of the free world stands and says that ‘Islam is a religion of peace,’ he creates the climate…he provides climate – the perfect climate – to create more terrorism.”
Yousef is willing to say what Obama would not: “There is an Islamic problem, and I think humanity needs to stand against this danger. Because this danger is not only against the State of Israel. This danger is against the [evolution] of mankind.”
Yousef speaks with authority on the subject since he has experienced both the Muslim and the Jewish way of life. He has learned that democracy is the better system after watching a Muslim mother be considered a hero for sending her children to die in a suicidal attack.
The crowd was reminded that the problem of Islam is unique. We do not have masses of terrorists killing in the name of Jesus or Jehovah. No one is bombing towers on behalf of the Buddha or Lao Tsu, yet people are killed everyday in the name of Allah.
Yousef believes the problem is inherent in the Islamic belief system. Mohammad was a mass murderer, and the tenets of Islam support his murderous ways. The West needs to support Muslim reformers and not kid ourselves into thinking it is “religion of peace.”
Liberals are so concerned with not appearing racist that they ignore the reality of the situation. We do not want a religious war, but Muslims do. We are fighting a religious war whether we want to admit it or not.
However, this is more than just a religious war. We are waging a war of ideas. Not all Americans believe in God, yet we do not stone the non-believers. Our culture is based on tolerance of diverse opinion and the market place of ideas.
The Islamic faith preaches that it is honorable to die in the name of Islam. This is why mothers are proud to send their children off in suicide vests. Our soldiers risk their lives every day, yet we do everything in our power to keep them alive. Americans respect life and fight to preserve it while Muslims are willing to die to kill others.
This is why the War on Terror will be hard won. We are not simply fighting a nation or a group. We are fighting a dangerous ideology, and innocent lives will continue to be lost until the ideology is stamped out.
This is not a fight that can be won on the battlefield alone — we need people like Mosab Yousef, who are offering an alternative to the barbaric idea known as Islam.
