How cartoonists drew the Iowa caucus results

(from here)

DONALD TRUMP entered Iowa as a big-talking strip of New York sirloin. He exited as a second side order of high corn.

Still, he remains undiminished as satiric red meat. The steely knives of America’s political cartoonists are close by, primed for serrated illustration.

Hillary Clinton likewise endured a bracing dose of truth at the Iowa caucuses, so the editorial cutlery follows her closely, too.

As we head to New Hampshire, it’s tough for cartoonists to stay away from targets who, for much of 2015, were like meal tickets — always quotable and pre-caricatured for decades in the public perception.

Here is a sampling of candidate cartoons out of Iowa — perhaps one will be your personal front-runner:

STEVE BENSON (Arizona Republic):

STEVE BREEN (San Diego Union-Tribune):

JEFF DANZIGER (NYTS/CWS):

NICK ANDERSON (Houston Chronicle):

DARRIN BELL (WPWG):

ROBERT ARIAIL (The State):

STEVE KELLEY (New Orleans Times-Picayune):

Writer/artist/visual storyteller Michael Cavna is creator of the “Comic Riffs” column and graphic-novel reviewer for The Post’s Book World. He relishes sharp-eyed satire in most any form.
