Strategic Perspectives

While many people came to hear top-notch speakers from around the world, many came for the added blessing of fellowship.

In October the Koinonia Institute held its 8th Annual Strategic Perspectives Conference at the Coeur d’Alene Resort. The conference-week activities began on Thursday with a series of pre-conference workshops at Koinonia House, which were varied and covered topics as diverse as “Proving the Authenticity of the Scriptures,” “Discerning Truth in a World of Lies,” and “Keeping the Private … Private.”

Because of the intense interest in the workshops and limited seating, next year the workshops will be held in the conference bays at the Resort.

In many ways the conference was a time of firsts. The conference itself had a new format. In addition to presentations that have been the hallmark of the conference in previous years, panel discussions were added to the format and were well received.

Financial Turmoil: Part 1

How we handle financial turmoil will either build us up in Christ or demonstrate our spiritual flabbiness.

How are Christians called to live in a society characterized as hostile to our beliefs, pushing an immoral agenda, high rate of taxation, anti-Israel posture and an intrusive, unstable government that stirs tension between religious groups?

You may think I am talking about today, but what I am actually describing are the times when Jesuswalked the earth. Of course, there are some obvious parallels to our day, but in Jesus’ day it was a time marked with financial instability and turmoil. Thank goodness Jesus taught us how to live by faith in the midst of economic uncertainty, because over and over throughout history the application has been needed!

I believe I have the coolest Kingdom calling in the world as a local church pastor teaching the Bible, but specializing in teaching on money. Our Sr. Pastor is Robert Morris and our community of believers is called Gateway Church. Being a local church pastor has given me a unique vantage point to disciple families of all ages and economic status. Over and over, I teach a simple Biblical mantra, “Be aware, yet do not fear. Trust God and apply His Word. The just shall live by faith.” In the good times and in challenging times, what does Scripture say for us to do?

Jeremiah, What Do You See?

Over the past few weeks I have been looking at the world around me, trying to answer the question that was asked of Jeremiah:

Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” And I said, “I see a branch of an almond tree.” Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am ready to perform My word.” And the word of the Lord came to me the second time, saying, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling pot, and it is facing away from the north.” Then the Lord said to me: “Out of the north calamity shall break forth On all the inhabitants of the land.”

The Denizens of the Metacosm

The Metacosm is the domain of transdimensional creatures such as angels (fallen and unfallen), demons, and—surprisingly—UFOs and other ostensibly hybrid forms encountered in the Scriptures.

As we have in our previous articles explored the limits of the boundaries of our reality, and recognized the limitations of the Macrocosm as well as the limits of the Microcosm, and thus highlighted that our reality is but “a shadow of a larger reality,” we have dubbed this exterior hyperspace as the “Metacosm.”
