Above And Beyond
March 6, 2015
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly
beyond all that we ask or think…
The Apostle Paul’s doxology from Ephesians 3:20 is the best way to capture what we at the Master’s Seminary are experiencing during the Inerrancy Summit. How else can you respond to the sight of 1200 volunteers serving 4500 pastors from 70 countries? How do you express appreciation for almost 1400 attendees who have never been to a Shepherds Conference before, and thousands watching the live stream from all over the world? Truly God has seen fit to do an amazing work on this campus, and we are grateful. Here are some highlights we wanted to share with you:
- On Tuesday night we celebrated the completion of the MacArthur New Testament Commentary series. John was presented with a full set of bronzed commentaries, and they have been put on display in the new Master’s Seminary foyer.
- On Wednesday evening our alumni were blessed to receive a word of encouragement from some of the keynote speakers. Over 400 pastors squeezed into a room for some candid ministry advice from John MacArthur, Al Mohler, Kevin DeYoung, and Mark Dever.
- Yesterday and today, over 350 prospective students reached out to our admissions councilors to prayerfully consider their future training. The seminary’s reputation for providing exceptional training in the context of a thriving local church was clearly expressed to these men.
Looking forward, there are several exciting developments slated for 2015/16. Here is just a short list:
- The Masters of Divinity degree will be offered in Spanish
- One third of the seminary classes will be available through online courses
- The full MDiv curriculum will be available through evening classes
- Extension campuses in the Washington DC, Dallas, San Diego, and Bozeman, Montana areas are being developed.
The Master’s Seminary is always moving forward, and we are in a season of change as the Lord moves some of our faculty on to their next place of ministry. We wish William Barrick and Paul Felix God’s richest blessings as they retire, and for Matt Waymeyer, as he accepts a teaching post at Expositors Seminary in Florida. We are grateful beyond expression for their influence on the student body and alumni. The Lord supplies our every need, and we are already in the final stages of discussions with several young scholars who are finishing Ph.D. work at some of the finest schools in the world.
One more important development this year will benefit men interested in postgraduate study. We are launching two exciting programs. The first is an enhanced Doctor of Ministry degree that will include instruction from leading evangelicals and pastors such as Steve Lawson, Alistar Begg, Carl Trueman, Tom Pennington, Sinclair Ferguson, Daniel Block, Derek Thomas, Art Azurdia, and of course our own President, John MacArthur.
In addition to the Doctor of Ministry, the Master’s Seminary is converting our Th.D. to a Ph.D., offered with a concentration in Old Testament, New Testament, or Systematic Theology. It can be completed without the need to relocate; the entire degree will be offered in modular format and will be available to our international students.
Thank you for taking a few moments to let us update you on life at The Master’s Seminary. There is too much to fit in one short email, so stay posted for more. We are committed to keeping you informed, and primed for what the Lord has in store for us. Please remember us before the throne of grace.
