Whether you’re new to Apple TV or need a refresher, we have seven tips you should know.

Apple TV was among the first crop of media streamers that let users watch music, movies, and other content stored on the computers on the TV’s big screen.

Apple TV was a “one last thing” at a 2006 press event, though it was initially called iTV. After a lawsuit from television broadcaster ITV, though, the little white box was renamed Apple TV.

In its early days, the (now black) box was referred to as a “hobby” within Apple. But now that media streaming has grown in popularity, and Apple has 20 million in sales under its belt, it’s become a much more important gadget to Cupertino. It still plays second fiddle to cheaper options from Roku and Google, but perhaps that’s because it hasn’t received a major update since 2012.

There’s been much speculation about whether Apple will introduce an actual television set, particularly since Walter Isaacson quoted Steve Jobs as saying that he’d “finally cracked” how to create an integrated TV that would combine broadcasting, streaming, and recording. But Apple and Tim Cook have stayed mum. So for now, Apple fans will have to make do with their Apple TV for streaming content from their small screens to their living rooms.

Whether you’re new to Apple TV or need a refresher, we have seven ways for you to get more out of the set-top box. Find out how in the slideshow.
