Conservatives Flood Houston Mayor’s Office for Subpoenaing Pastors’ Sermons – But Not With Hate Mail
Houston Mayor Annise Parker earlier this month subpoenaed the sermons of pastors opposed to the city’s Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) and wanted to see if the pastors had been discussing it. After Americans all across the country condemned the fishing expedition as a violation of religious liberty, Mayor Parker backed down.
Mike Huckabee put the mayor on full blast a week ago and called for viewers and pastors to
send their Bibles and sermons to Ms. Parker.
Right on cue, conservatives made their displeasure known. Instead of sending hate mail conservatives instead sent Bibles, nearly a thousand of them, according to The Blaze.
Not only Mike Huckabee, but conservative leaders such as Glenn Beck and Senator Ted Cruz encouraged their followers to send Bibles and religious texts to Houston city hall. From The Blaze:
“People of faith are under attack,” Beck said. “Our churches and our institutions, our pastors, our preachers, our priests, our rabbis are under attack.”
Beck, in addition to former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee and Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R), encouraged Americans across the country to stand in support of the subpoenaed religious leaders by flooding the mayor’s office with religious texts.
“Go find the best sermons you can find on religious liberty and send them to city hall in Houston,” Beck said.
Mayor Parker for her part says she will donate the Bibles to local churches. KHOU reported on what happened:

Instead of sending hate mail, conservatives instead may have found a way to help churches in the long run. If Mayor Parker was trying to stifle religious faith in Houston, it clearly backfired.
