Forget English. Forget Spanish. What the Rest of People in Your State Speak – Some are Really Wild.

English, obviously, is the most popular language in every state. But what’s the second most popular? And the third?

Slate came up with some maps that show us. Take a look at this:Screen Shot 2014-08-19 at 7.23.55 PMSpanish is the 2nd-most popular language in 43 states – or 50 if you’re the President – and 7 others have either French, German, Yupik, or Tagalog.

Now we’ve run into some diversity, that’s for sure. Nationwide, the U.S. Census reports that over 300 different languages are spoken. Time to brush up with some Rosetta Stone?
